Young men scantily clad in loin cloth, head band and sandals make a pilgrimage in the cold of January to the shrines to pray for the health and prosperity of friends and family.
●SPRING .....................「CHAGU-CHAGU-UMAKKO」June 15
This annual event marks the close of the rice planting. One hundred horses colorfully attired march in single file from Soozen Shrine in Takizawa to Morioka's Hachiman Shrine, a fifteen kilometer pilgrimage. Upon reaching the shrine, a successful harvest and offer thanks to the horses. As "umakko" (horses) walk, bells attached to their decorations seems to say "chagu-chagu".

●SUMMER .....................「SANSA-ODORI」August 2-4
This very old, traditional vestival is a joyous event which gathers over twenty thousand participants. Groups of Morioka citizens dress in traditional garb and dance down main street to the delightful music of wooden flutes and "taiko"(drums).
