MORIOKA
Taking pride in the city's four hundred year old history, the citizens of Morioka have carefully preserved the many historic buildings and locations which speak to us from the past. The town was founded toward the end of the sixteenth century when the twenty-sixth Lord of Nambu, Nobunao, began construction of both the town and castle. From the founding date, through the Meiji, Taisho and Showa and Heisei eras, Morioka has been a ceter of political, economic and cultural activity for Iwate. Now that the Tohoku Shinkansen (Bullet Train) and the Tohoku Toll Road have been extended to Morioka, the city has come to play a key role for the entire Nothern Tohoku district (Aomori, Akita and Iwate).
